Chris Jericho, Father Christmas and the Popularity of Christmas Music
Just in time to get you rockin’ for the holidays, Chris Jericho & The Christmas Helves have a new song out, The Kinks’ “Father Christmas,” released by Madison Records. Jericho’s band brings their punk-rock sound to the song that hits listeners with hard-core lyrics to the backdrop of some great guitar riffs.
“I’ve always wanted to do a Christmas song, as it’s guaranteed annual airplay (and if I hear ‘Wonderful Christmas Time’ one more time, I’m gonna stuff myself down a chimney), so I put together the musical assassins known as ‘The Christmas Helves’ and banged out this sugarplum version of my favorite Kinks tune,” Jericho says.
Chris Jericho, a multi-faceted talent with two decades of professional wrestling to his name, as well as acting credits and his music career, has decided to donate all proceeds from “Father Christmas” to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). It’s a cause near and dear to his heart, as two of his children have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. “It’s a disease everyone knows about but doesn’t really know, and I wanted to help raise awareness and support the research being done by JDRF,” Jericho says.
Jericho isn’t the only musician excited about recording Christmas music. In addition to the benefit of airplay year after year, Christmas music is big business. Sales of Christmas albums continue to stay strong, even after CD sales and even downloading music have fallen by the wayside. Whether it’s because people enjoy having Christmas music to play during the holiday season or purchase the albums as gifts, you’ll find albums from recent artists such as Katie Perry and Idina Menzel in the racks beside the standard favorites of Elvis Presley and Bing Crosby.
